High Court upholds demolition of a decades-old fish and poultry farm on farmland in Mani Majra
Chandigarh's estate authorities ordered the demolition of sheds built for a fish-farming and poultry business on agricultural land in village Mani Majra under the Punjab New Capital (Periphery) Control Act. The petitioners said they had run the business for 20 to 30 years and had bought the land. The Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed their challenge on 15 September 2026.

How we verify →The demolition order of 13 April 2026 stands.
What happened
LiveLaw reported the petitioners said they had farmed fish and poultry on the land for 20 to 30 years, selling at source since 1999, first with the owners' permission and later after buying it through GPA, will and agreement documents.
They had built animal and tin sheds and obtained electricity connections; a demolition order of 13.04.2026 declared the structures unauthorised under the 1952 Act.
The High Court held the order was passed in accordance with the Act's procedure and natural justice, and that the right to livelihood cannot license a breach of the statute protecting Chandigarh's planned periphery.
The High Court dismissed the writ petition.
