The Patna High Court (Division Bench) allowed a habeas corpus writ for minor a 15-year-old boy, arrested on October 23, 2025 by IO of Puraini Police Station in Puraini PS Case No. 128 of 2025 even though the boy had been shown as not-chargesheeted in Chargesheet No. 235 dated September 1, 2025. Acting solely on a DIG Koshi Range supervision note without collecting fresh material or seeking court permission for further investigation, the IO described the boy as 19 and he spent over two and a half months incarcerated; the Juvenile later confirmed he was about 15 years 6 months at the time of occurrence. Holding his Right to Life and Liberty violated by misuse of police power, the Court ordered his forthwith release, awarded Rs. 5,00,000 compensation plus Rs. 15,000 costs payable by the State within one month, and directed the DGP Bihar to hold an administrative inquiry and recover the sum from the erring officials within six months.
