ConcludedThe Bombay High Court upheld service punishment imposed on police personnel.
The judgment of the Bombay High Court records the following account. In June 2018 a video went viral showing RPF constable Rajesh Jangid, posted as Commando and in uniform at Kalyan railway station, sitting beside a woman passenger on a platform bench and touching her inappropriately until co-passengers intervened. The railway authorities chargesheeted him suo motu, held a disciplinary enquiry under the RPF Rules 1987, and removed him from service in August 2018, a penalty affirmed in revision and on representation. The court viewed the video clip itself and held it clearly established his intention to outrage the woman's modesty. The court found the misconduct proved, held removal (a lesser penalty than dismissal) fully justified for a member of a disciplined force, dismissed the writ petition and discharged the Rule. Matters not addressed in the cited judgment text are not recorded here.
