ConcludedThe Madras High Court recorded adverse findings against police personnel and ordered Rs 1,000,000.
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court allowed a Madurai man criminal appeal, setting aside his 10-year NDPS conviction and sentence for alleged possession of 24 kg ganja at Melavasal on 26 June 2021. The Court found P.W.2, P.W.3 and P.W.4 of Thideer Nagar police station conspired to secure conviction by hook or crook through false evidence, including a fabricated Section 42 NDPS compliance document. Calling it an unholy alliance to secure conviction on false evidence, the Court acquitted a Madurai man, directed the three officers to jointly pay Rs 10 lakh compensation within one month, and directed the DGP, Chennai, to hold an inquiry into their conduct.
