ConcludedThe Madras High Court recorded adverse findings against police personnel and ordered Rs 50,000.
The judgment of the Madras High Court records the following account. A Madurai woman was arrested at about 8 p.m. on 14 January 2019, forcibly taken to the police station where she was abused, beaten and cut, then hospitalised and remanded the next day. A single judge held the after-sunset arrest of a woman illegal for breach of section 46(4) CrPC, directed departmental action and Rs.50,000 costs recoverable from the officers' salaries. On 7 February 2025 the Division Bench allowed the appeals of Inspector and Woman Head Constable for want of definite material against them. It dismissed Sub-Inspector's appeal, holding she had not made fair disclosure since her counter contradicted her own remand report, so the costs and departmental-action directions stand as against her.
