Conviction
ConcludedThe trial court convicted the accused police personnel, as recorded in the Telangana High Court judgment.
The judgment of the Telangana High Court records the following account. Police Constable of Choutuppal Police Station intercepted a sand-laden lorry on 23 June 2003, seized its registration documents, and demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 to return them. On 26 June 2003, during a trap laid by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, the appellant received the tainted bribe at his residence and threw the currency into an adjacent drain upon seeing the trap party. The Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Hyderabad, convicted him under Sections 7 and 13(1)(d) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, sentencing him to two years of rigorous imprisonment. The High Court found the demand, acceptance, and recovery firmly established, affirming the conviction while reducing the sentence of imprisonment to one year on each count to run concurrently.
