CW-2023-0006South West Garo Hills, MeghalayaJudgment 22 March 2023

Nurul Islam v. State of Meghalaya

The Meghalaya High Court dismissed the appeal of OC Ampati PS Nurul Islam, upholding his POCSO court conviction for detaining two minor sisters aged 13 and 17 at the station on 13 March 2013 and molesting them in his chamber, and raping the elder sister at her home on 31 March 2013. The Court rejected the defence that the survivors' alleged prostitution discredited them and that their age was unproved, holding there could be no reasonable doubt as to culpability. It found the March 2022 conviction and sentence called for no interference. The appeal was dismissed without touching the trial court's sentence.
