ConcludedThe Allahabad High Court recorded adverse findings against police personnel and ordered Rs 500,000.
The judgment of the Allahabad High Court records the following account. A Doharighat man, a young ITBP constable aspirant who had cleared his physical test, was taken to Doharighat police station on 9 April 2015 for interrogation and detained there until 16 April 2015, during which he was subjected to brutal third-degree torture including electric shocks, severe beatings and insertion of aluminium wire through his mouth. The Court accepted medical evidence including an X-ray showing the wire and photographs of his injuries, rejecting the State's denial. It held the petitioner had suffered custodial violence at the hands of the police, awarded Rs 5 lakh compensation payable by the State within two months for his ruined career and immense suffering, and directed the SP, Mau to register an FIR against the erring incumbents with investigation by an officer not below Circle Officer rank under his supervision.
