Gujarat Police Police Sub-Inspector v. State of Gujarat

The Supreme Court maintained the conviction of Police Sub-Inspector, who had stopped a marriage-party luxury bus at Aasarana Chokdi, retained its permit and papers, and demanded Rs.250 as entry fee from the travels mehtaji. The Court found sufficient evidence of demand and acceptance of the bribe. Given the prolonged pendency and over six months already spent in custody, it reduced the one year's rigorous imprisonment to the period undergone while maintaining the conviction and fine. Matters not addressed in the cited judgment text are not recorded here.
