Conviction
ConcludedThe trial court convicted the accused police personnel, as recorded in the Gujarat High Court judgment.
The judgment of the Gujarat High Court records the following account. PSI of Khuntvada Police Station stopped luxury bus GTS-9919 carrying a marriage party at Aasarana Chokadi on 12 December 1990, seized its permit papers and demanded Rs.250 (later Rs.225) as 'entry fee'. The bus owner refused to pay and approached the ACB, Bhavnagar, whose trap caught the PSI accepting the marked amount. The Special Judge, Bhavnagar convicted him in 1993 while acquitting three co-accused. The Gujarat High Court held the prosecution evidence acceptable and reliable, rejected the defence of a false trap, and confirmed the conviction and sentence while cancelling bail and ordering surrender.
