ConcludedThe Punjab and Haryana High Court recorded adverse findings against police personnel and ordered Rs 100,000.
The High Court of Punjab and Haryana awarded Rs 1,00,000 compensation to the family of a Hariana man, who was eliminated in police custody. A Hariana man had been arrested on 30 December 1992 by Inspector of PS Hariana, and police subsequently claimed he escaped on 6 March 1993 while being led by Constable to recover hidden weapons. An inquiry conducted by the Sessions Judge, Hoshiarpur, rejected the police escape story and concluded that a Hariana man was in all probability eliminated by the police party. The High Court accepted the inquiry report and directed the State to pay compensation for the benefit of the deceased's four children, wife, and elderly parents.
