How we verify →

TRTC is the Government of Tripura's road-transport statutory corporation, constituted under the Road Transport Corporations Act, 1950. What happened

TRTC's official website states that it was established in 1969 under the Road Transport Corporations Act, 1950 as a Government of Tripura undertaking to provide coordinated transport services.

The Government of Tripura's FY2025-26 expenditure budget provided total TRTC grants-in-aid of Rs 10 crore. The budget was presented in the Legislative Assembly on 21 March 2025.

CAG identifies TRTC as Tripura's working statutory corporation. Its latest finalised FY2019-20 accounts showed turnover of Rs 1.47 crore and a Rs 0.52 crore profit for that year, but accumulated losses of Rs 288.04 crore exceeded paid-up capital of Rs 163.96 crore.

CAG reported manpower of 133 with those accounts and capital employed of negative Rs 123.83 crore, consistent with an enterprise whose net worth had been eroded.

What we could not confirm

Shareholding is not applicable in the ordinary company sense because TRTC is a statutory corporation, so the field is null. The latest finalised financial statements identified by CAG were only for FY2019-20; the newer budget allocation is not revenue or profit. No official closure or disinvestment decision was found.
