What happened

Official PRTC accounting rules state that the corporation was established under the Road Transport Corporations Act, 1950 with effect from 1 October 1956. The PRTC booking site instead says it was set up on 16 October 1956 and commenced passenger operations with an investment of Rs 25 lakh and 60 buses.

Its head office is PEPSU Road Transport Corporation, Nabha Road, Patiala, Punjab 147001. The Punjab Department of Transport lists PEPSU Road Transport Corporation, Patiala among its organisations at the same address.

The booking site's about page reports 762 PRTC-owned ordinary buses, a total fleet of 1124 and nine depots, but supplies no current as-of date. Official accounting rules describe capital contributed by the State Government and the Central Government through Northern Railway in a 2:1 ratio from 1 April 1968.

PRTC's official tender page contains 2025 and 2026 procurement activity, including a corrigendum extending an adda-fee tender deadline to 12 March 2026. Therefore, the earlier claim that no PRTC-specific 2025 or 2026 development was found is incorrect.

What we could not confirm

The two official PRTC sources give different establishment dates: the accounting rules specify effect from 01-10-1956, while the booking-site history says set up on 16-10-1956. Fleet figures have no stated current as-of date. Ownership should not be described as Punjab-government-only because official accounting rules identify Central Government participation through Northern Railway.
